Don't get me wrong, in general we are doing pretty great here in Chesapeake. Life is good: so much more predictable and stable, and full of fun possibilities. Still, the last few days have been a little hectic. I've been trying to go through (multiplying, it seems) boxes, and both of my little girls have caught nasty colds, and it's just been a little intense at moments. I know we have too much stuff. I shudder to think what would have happened if we hadn't gotten rid of a TON of stuff before we left Davenport. But in the space we have to work with, we still have too much. There is a big pile of thrift store donations, as well as a lot of things that have been thrown away, but now I still have to find places to cut down. What to get rid of? What we have the most of are toys, books, media, and clothes. Clothes-to-grow-into (or in my case, shrink into...) clothes grown out of but we may need again, toys, toys, toys, (trying to get rid of a lot of those, but they're all so fun!) electronic equipment, tapes and discs galore. You get the picture. Anyway, all of it is a little overwhelming, but hard to get rid of. It was so carefully acquired (especially all my second-hand Little People sets!), and I'm not sure when we'll be in a financial position to replace it when/if we do need it. So mostly I just have to pace myself as I go through it and deal with it, I guess. Can you see how excited Katy is here that I finally went through one of the really big bins and found some toys just right for her?
Poor Jaina woke up last night several times all croupy and upset that she couldn't sleep. I think she fell asleep on my shoulder in the bathroom while we were "steaming" her every time. She is a girl that needs her sleep! She has felt pretty rotten today, which means the tv has been on all day. :-p
Katy got sick Tuesday night and we had some rough moments the first two nights, but she felt great yesterday.

Here are some pictures we took last Saturday when we went to a big mall in Virginia Beach. I was excited because there was a Disney store there. The kids liked the Disney store, but it was almost immediately forgotten when they saw this:

A double-decker carousel, imported from Venice! THey really, really wanted to ride it. So we let them. And Katy even got on free, which was nice! We signed them up for their birthday club, which apparently gets them a coupon for free rides for them and up to 9 friends on their birthday. Pretty cool, huh? They had a blast, even if Katy was about 2 hours overdue for her nap by the time we got her home. :)

I know how days like that are, especially when you have little ones and you've moved out of state.I hope to see you at the new member potluck next month!
I love getting rid of things! Want me to come help you? :) I go through our toys regularly and if they haven't played with it in over a week or two, it's gone. I just went through all our movies too and just kept the ones we absolutely love and got rid of the semi-ok ones. Less is more, it opens a whole new creativity in your home when you have less stuff and get this, it makes you happier. Less stuff to clean up! Crazy huh? You can do it - it's fun! :)
I love the pic of Reilly and Jaina looking ready to climb over the gate. What a fun carousel!
I hope you get a break from the sickies for your birthday! Good luck with unpacking and purging. I still have boxes we haven't unpacked and I'm thanking my lucky stars that we got rid of stuff before we moved too! Looks like we might be buying a house soon so I'll get to pack again. Ugh.
Amazing carousel! (Katy is definitely more adventurous than her only boy cousin...Justin is still a little unsure about carousels...(:'
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I try to be super careful about what I let into our house, toy-wise. But that being said I have a bit of a love affair with awesome kids toys...so we have lots that I love and really have no intention of getting rid of. We do a toy rotation thing. They want something out of the storage bin they trade me something else for it...or I trade it myself! There are a lot of amazing under the bed (and even under the couch!) storage solutions you could explore. I'm all for downsizing and keeping things simple...but you are keeping three littles happy in a small space each day, and that takes a variety of toys you all love! Good luck! At any rate there's no way you're working with the same size space as our room in college...and think of all we fit in there!!! Sometimes it was even neat!
Oh Sara I am sorry about the kids' colds. I hope everybody is feeling much better now. Happy late Birthday!! I love you lots! I am sure that in no time life will be easier because you wont have to deal with unpacking and what not. Just try and take it easy...no rush.
