Palmer had their annual Halloween Trick or Treat and Party Thursday. I had found this cute scarecrow costume at Once Upon a Child and got rather ambitious when I decided to make Jaina a "Dorothy" costume to go along with it. There was much stress, (since patterns - especially ones I had to change, "selvages," and "gather-stitch" were all pretty much foreign concepts to me before this. I can't even figure out the pattern for and apron I want to make for myself, and I'm pretty sure it's super simple... Anyway.
It turned out relatively well, though we did use safety pins to attach things together in the back. But it's a costume, right? Though Reilly disliked any and all costumes I tried to get him to try on up to this point, I told him we were going to the Halloween party, and there would be candy, and he couldn't go unless he wore a costume. We finally put it on in the parking lot, but he did just fine after that. :)
Here are a few shots of the kids "trick-or-treating" at the different departments:

And posing for Daddy's camera:
Neither of them won anything in the individual age categories, but like last year, they managed to pull off a prize in the "Duo" category. I didn't really expect them to win, but it sure made all the sewing and stressing a little more worth it. ;-) And the gift cards are to their favorite store: Toys 'R Us!
Here is Reilly (and Jeremy) in the 3-year-olds category:
And Jaina in the 1-year-olds:
Going up for the "Duo" category:
It's a good thing she didn't have this face during the whole judging, or they wouldn't have thought she was so cute:
As it was, we celebrated with a Little Caesar's pizza,(because someone forgot to plan dinner with all that sewing)
and had extra bedtime stories! ;-)

You did a great job on Jaina's dress! I'm so glad they won for the duo :) What a cute pair they are indeed!
Super Super Cute!!!! Good job on the sewing and congrats on the gift card. Sad we missed it :(
So cute! I love to have my kids match :) One year Gaige was Peter Pan and Kiley was Tiger Lily. Great job on the dress.
I was dorothy for Halloween once too!! I wore my costume to school for the annual halloween parade everyone did around the school. However mine was made of plastic, yes plastic, and it did'nt last long that day :( but I ended up being some type of space something that we put together in our dress up box.

Aren't you creative! Good job hanging in there with the Dorothy costume. You can't even see the safety pins. :)
Your sewing skills are impressive, Sara! Good job getting that practice in... =) It gets easier the more you work on it, believe me!
I love the pics of your cute little munchkins - especially the one where they are posing for Dad's camera... =)
O.K. your little Jaina girl is such a doll. I love the second to last pic of her (must be the dark maroon color) anyway, I also love the pic of little Scarecrow and Dorothy holding hands. Good job on the costume. I just read your last several posts-man I really need to get on the computer more. You always have much excitement in your lives.
