Actually, we were introduced almost 9 months ago, at Christmas time. And we got together once in January, but then things got busy and the relationship was just too complicated for me.
Actually, this is kind of how I felt when we tried to hang out together:
But I've been more dedicated lately, and we decided to give it another try. We spent about 5 hours together today, and things are looking up. I feel like we finally understand each other, and that there might be a future for this friendship. Wish us luck! :)
My first pattern ever. And one I had to follow directions (from the internet) for and actually create myself.
My first "pieces" that I sewed together.
Yes, I forgot to put the apron strings inside before I sewed it shut and turned it inside out. Had to improvise the first one a little bit... That's the nice thing about having two children: I get to practice on the first one and make improvements for the second. ;-)
The finished product: (no, I don't know why it decided to turn sideways)
You won't see any live models until Christmas time... or Jaina's birthday, close to Christmas. I haven't decided when they're getting these.
In general, it was a great first "project" for me. I've done a few blankets, and one quilt, but always with close supervision. I had to be very patient with myself, and remind myself that all the mistakes and do-overs were a necessary part of the learning process. I think I've learned to put the foot down before I start sewing now, and I'm pretty sure I will be better about checking to see if the mat is under my rotary cutter from now on (R.I.P. nice dish towel)... It was fun, and rewarding, but took so long! (possibly because I'm not very experienced at ANY part of the process. Even my iron and I hadn't spent any time together in a few months before this...) It also made a mess, but at least unlike cooking, there weren't any dishes to deal with! :)

Those are cute! I'm inspired to make aprons for the kiddos. Of course, they'll be added to a long list of "OH I'm gonna make that"s!
I love that photo of Jaina crying. I've felt like that too. :) Cute aprons. I wish I had a friend like yours!
SOO excited that you are becoming friends with your sewing machine...it opens so many cute cute cute and very fun doors!!! I still make lots of mistake and have to improvise and redo lots of steps and things. Don't worry about it!!! Yay for you!!!
super cute! Thanks for the bday wishes
You did a really good job on the aprons! Sewing machines aren't as scary as they seem. I can't wait to see what you make next :)
cute phone! and i'm very impressed by your dedication to being so crafty! The aprons turned out WAY cute!
Way to Go Sara! Those aprons are absoultely adorable! I love the fabric! Maybe I can get to know "my new friend" better too! I need more confidence and more patience! You are amazing and inspiring Sara! Have a great weekend!
You are so funny! I am very impressed! Those turned out way cute. Yeah, I feel the same way about my iron. The sewing machine gets used more than it does, and I don't use the sewing machine that much!
That is REALLY cute! You inspire me!
where did you get the pattern for the aprons?
